How We Help
Self-Employment

Practical, income-generating micro-business ideas

Life Directions supports people who face barriers to employment by helping them turn their interests, skills, and lived experience into practical, income-generating micro-business ideas.

We start by getting to know the person, their strengths, preferences, and what feels meaningful or manageable for them. From there, we help break things down into small, clear steps so the idea doesn’t feel overwhelming. That might include choosing a simple service or product, figuring out what tools or supports are needed, and identifying safe, realistic ways to get started in the community.

We also help with the practical side: basic planning, understanding costs, setting simple goals, and learning how to promote their service in a way that feels comfortable. Just as important, we focus on building confidence and reducing the fear of “doing it wrong,” so people can learn as they go.

The goal isn’t just business, it’s creating opportunities for independence, dignity, and meaningful participation in work that fits the person, rather than forcing the person to fit the work.
